About Adam & Janna

Kokoda Trek ReviewWe started the Kokoda Trekking Review website in late 2009 by after we first walked the Kokoda Trek.

Since then, we’ve met hundreds of people asking us to share our adventure.

There are so many people who want to walk the Kokoda Trek and are not sure how to find out which tour operator best meets their needs. The result is this little website that collates information about several tour operators in one spot.  Keep your needs in mind, sign up to our newsletter and browse this site to find which Kokoda Trek is the best match for you.

About Adam

Adam on the Kokoda Trek

Adam first realised that he wanted to attempt the Kokoda Trek after seeing a documentary in the late 1990’s about disadvantaged youths being given the adventure of a lifetime – and finding out first-hand just how tough the Kokoda Trek can be. He also knew that his grandfather had fought in the area around Lae and Popondetta.

His dream of walking the track took years to come to fruition. First an accounting position with university and then extensive travel in South East Asia, Europe and the Americas (where he met his future wife!) got in the way. It was only after returning to Australia with Janna that the idea of attempting the Kokoda track really took shape.

About Janna

Janna on the Kokoda Trek

Janna grew up in Hamburg Germany and moved to Australia in 2003 to follow Adam. She had never heard about the Kokoda Trek, until Adam asked her to join him in the adventure. Luckily she did, as Adam proposed on the first night on the track!

About Us

We first met in New York in 2000 in a hostel in Harlem. We kept in contact via email and after Adam visited Germany several times, he decided to move there permanently to be closer to Janna and to teach English. When Janna finished school, Adam asked her to move to Australia with him. A big step for Janna as she was only 19 years old at the time!

Ironically Kokoda was our first big trek. We had never done any overnight hiking before, only day-trips (so rest assured it can be done!). However, it did involve some budgeting, time management and some solid training.

On Kokoda we found our passion for hiking and since then we walked the the Overland track in Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain National Park area, and took some great trips to Western Australia and Borneo. Next on our list are Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa, and maybe one day Mt Everest!
